Prof. Bingwen Yan
Prof. Bingwen Yan is an academic leader with over 17 years of experience in higher education, specialising in engineering, operations management, and academic quality assurance. Currently serving as Head of the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT), he has also held the position of Acting Assistant Dean: Learning and Teaching in the Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment. Prof. Yan brings extensive expertise in curriculum development, academic governance, and faculty transformation.
Holding a Doctor of Technology in Mechanical Engineering, along with a Master’s in Management and a Bachelor’s in Financial Accounting, Prof. Yan has led strategic initiatives that align education with industry needs and Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) trends. His leadership recently earned his department Blue-Flag Status for excellence in Quality Assurance, awarded by the Office of the Vice-Chancellor.
A prolific researcher, Prof. Yan has authored over 30 peer-reviewed journal articles and supervised more than 30 postgraduate students to completion. He has built strong international academic collaborations, particularly with Chinese institutions, enhancing student mobility, joint research, and institutional linkages. His international recognition includes keynote speaking roles and being honoured with the IEOMOutstanding Professor in Operations Management Award (2025). He will also serve as Conference Chair for the 7th African IEOM Conference in 2026.
Prof. Yan is a passionate educator and research leader committed to student success, academic excellence, and institutional transformation. His multifaceted experience and visionary leadership make him exceptionally suited for executive academic roles within dynamic, forward-looking institutions. At the Infra-Fin Advisory Institute, he leads international investment promotion as Research and Development Director for Infrastructure Projects & Mineral Resources. He facilitates strategic partnerships between academic institutions, respected industry bodies, and investors in large-scale infrastructure projects and mineral resources.
